Maxwell Pro Datasheet

Maxwell Pro Datasheet

Overview

Maxwell Pro is used for network emulation and protocol testing.
NOTE: For purposes of network emulation without protocol testing, we suggest our KMAX series of products.

Maxwell Pro may be ordered on either of two platforms:

  • Maxwell Pro-G: This is a small platform with 2.5Gbit/second copper (RJ45) network interfaces and a pair of
    SFP+ sockets. Maxwell Pro-G uses an Intel Core® i5 1240P and is slightly less powerful than Maxwell Pro-P,
    but is often more convenient because despite its small size it has both the 2.5Gbit and SFP+ interfaces.
  • Maxwell Pro-P: This is desktop sized platform. It uses an Intel Core® i5 11600 processor. It has either
    2.5GBit/second copper (RJ45) network interfaces or a pair of SFP+ sockets – but not at the same time.
    (Even if the SFP+ sockets are installed the management interface remains 2.5Gbit RJ45.)

    The Wi-Fi port may be used as the management interface or as a data interface after proper
    configuration by the user.
    Bluetooth may be used (after proper configuration by the user) for keyboards or mice but is
    otherwise not normally used.
  • Intel Core® i5 11600 (or newer) processor

  • USB3.0 and USB 2.0 (may also have USB-C without video)
  • One copper RJ45 Ethernet interface used for management and control. (Some units may have an
    additional, unused RJ45 Ethernet interface.)
  • Two alternative network configurations (Manual swapping required):
    • Configuraiton1: Two copper/RJ45 Ethernet interfaces[1]
      * Intel i225 or i226, or Realtek 8125
      * Operate at 10/100/1000/2500 megabits/second and support auto crossover (auto MDI/MDI-X)
      * “Jumbo” frames are supported.
    • Configuration 2: Two SFP+ Ethernet interfaces[1]
      * Intel 82599ES
      * Operate at 10gigabits/second
      * “Jumbo” frames are supported.

Software

  • Userspace based impairment engine
  • Graphic, command line or script driven interface
    Controllable from external scripts in C, C++, Python, and other languages
  • Multiple bands/flows
    Default is four bands (plus a default band). More bands may be configured.
    Bands are bi-directional and may have different settings for each direction
  • Rich packet classification system to direct incoming frames and packets into the various bands. Users may
    establish filters to classify traffic into different bands with different impairments applied to each direction
    of each band.
  • All impairments are highly parameterized for maximum flexibility.
  • Changes of settings occur immediately, “on the fly”, without restarting.
  • Time varying impairments
    Most impairments allow the user to define various statistically shaped sub-second bursts.
    For longer duration patterns users may specify time-varying expressions for any numeric impairment
    parameter. The time may range from zero to more than a day.
  • Impairments:
    Packet Drop/Loss
    Packet Delay/Latency: From zero to 3600 seconds, with millisecond precision
    Packet Jitter (Packet Delay Variation, PDV), with or without reordering.
    User may specify a custom jitter distribution: Uniform, Gaussian, Pareto, or Pareto-Normal
    Packet Duplication, with rapid back-to-back transmission
    Packet Corruption: Specify packet-centric or bit-centric probabilities of corruption
    Rate limiting: Choose From several queue management algorithms
    Built-in scenarios that user may invoke (and modify)
  • Packet capture and replay through use of other tools on the Maxwell Pro platform, such as Wireshark and
    tcpreplay.
  • Field upgradeable to new versions.
  • Underlying operating system: Linux (Fedora/KD

License

  • One-time license fee (no yearly renewal) with optional annual support option.

Support

  • Includes 90 days of technical support including bug fixes, upgrades, and new releases.

Notes:

  • [1] The speeds of the network interfaces represent the bits-per-second rate at which bits are clocked onto, or
    off-of, the network medium. The actual frame (packet) per second performance of Maxwell Pro may not be
    able to fully saturate that capacity, especially when the traffic load is composed of small frames.
  • [2] Of the six total network interfaces one of the 2.5gbit/second interfaces is dedicated to control and
    management of the Maxwell Pro-G. Of the remaining network interfaces, only two may be used at any one
    time for network traffic that will be subject to impairments and emulation.
